What is the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders (CHCPE)?

The Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders or CHCPE in short, is a Connecticut state run program that helps provide live-in home care services for elderly senior citizens that are over 65 years old by paying for in-home care services. The intent is to allow senior citizens to continue living at home while at the same time lessening the financial burden on the family.

Who qualifies for the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders (CHCPE)?

For a senior to be eligible for the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders, they must be 65 years of age or older, require assistance with everyday living such as meal preparation and bathing, be eligible for a nursing home, and they must be a Connecticut resident. In addition to the age, residence and physical condition qualifications, there is also financial eligibility requirements that needs to be met. Are there any fees associated with the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders (CHCPE)?

In July of 2015, Connecticut requires that the individual or family of the individual that is receiving CHCPE program benefits must pay 9% of the monthly costs in the form of a copay. If the family of the senior in the program fails to pay the copay, then the services will be terminated.
